Kapwa House

Kapwa House is a Seattle-based yoga brand founded by Iza Narag, a Filipina American yoga teacher whose practice is rooted in community, cultural connection, and intentional rest. Kapwa is a Filipino word meaning "shared identity," a reminder that we are not separate from one another but deeply connected. My goal was to design a website that carried that same intention, something that didn't just look beautiful but actually felt like the brand it represented.

The Challenge

Kapwa House originally came to me as a full-service yoga website. Classes, private lessons, retreats, scheduling, and inquiries all competed for attention, leaving visitors with no clear direction and no sense of what the brand was really about. It took an honest conversation over lunch, where I told Iza directly that the site I built wasn't serving her, to find the answer. We stripped it back to what mattered most: showcasing her retreats and bringing her personality, energy, and cultural identity to life through the design.

The Process

Discovery

I started by sitting down with Iza and asking the right questions. What sites inspired her? What vibe was she going for? What did she want visitors to feel when they landed on her page? From there a clear direction emerged around three things:

  • The retreats as the focal point of the entire site
  • Her photography as the primary mood setter
  • Real voices from retreat goers to bring the community aspect of Kapwa to life

Design

The visual direction came together collaboratively. Iza worked with a graphic designer on her broader brand identity and once those elements came through I wove them into the site to keep everything cohesive. Getting creative with what was available meant:

  • Building layout and content hierarchy around the photography first
  • Keeping the design restrained so nothing competed with the imagery or the community voices
  • Intentionally centering retreat goer reviews throughout the site, letting the people who have experienced Kapwa speak for themselves. Community is at the heart of what Kapwa means, so it felt right that the community would be the ones to tell the story. Their words bring another layer of that shared identity to life in a way no marketing copy ever could

Delivery

The site launched successfully and the collaboration is ongoing. Iza continues to reach out for updates and improvements as Kapwa House grows.

The Solution

The final site delivers exactly what Kapwa House stands for. A sense of togetherness, warmth, and connection to nature that visitors feel from the moment they land on the page. By centering the retreats, leading with stunning photography, and letting the community speak through real retreat goer reviews, the site became more than a booking page. It became a reflection of Iza and the experience she creates for the people who join her.

The impact has been tangible. Retreat venues reviewing Iza's site have complimented it on multiple occasions, a meaningful signal that the design holds up in rooms where first impressions matter most.

The Outcome

Kapwa House now has a digital home that works as hard as Iza does. The site has contributed to increased retreat bookings and gives Iza a place to point people to that accurately represents her brand, her energy, and her community.

The value showed up in an unexpected moment. Over dinner in Lisbon, a fellow retreat goer asked Iza whether having a website was worth it. Her answer was immediate. The site gives people a real sense of who she is, what she offers, and what they can expect from every retreat. That kind of organic endorsement, unprompted and unscripted, is the best outcome a designer can ask for.

The collaboration is ongoing. As Kapwa House grows, so does the site.
